Morata edges towards Leganes loan as Madrid lifestyle drives Como exit

Alvaro Morata is closing in on a loan move to Leganes from Serie A side Como, with sources close to the Spanish forward confirming to Mundo Deportivo that negotiations are under way. The 33-year-old has been unable to nail down a starting place under Cesc Fàbregas and is now weighing a return to Spanish football in the second tier.

According to Cadena COPE’s El Larguero programme, as cited by Mundo Deportivo, Morata’s primary motivation is straightforward: he wants to live in Madrid. That personal preference is reported to be the decisive factor behind Leganes emerging as his destination ahead of other interested clubs.

The path to a deal is not without complications. Leganes compete in the Segunda División, a significant step down from the level at which Morata has spent most of his career, and the financial structure of a loan from Como would need to be agreed by all parties. Sources close to the forward described the situation as an active negotiation rather than a concluded agreement.

Morata’s position at Como has also been weakened by the expected arrival of Moise Kean, which would further reduce his chances of regular minutes in Lombardy. With his Serie A future increasingly uncertain, a loan exit before the window closes has become the most likely outcome.

Should the deal be finalised, Morata would become Leganes’ focal point in attack as the club push for promotion back to La Liga’s top flight. The former Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid striker — and long-serving Spain international — would bring considerable experience to a squad with promotion ambitions.

For now, the move remains unresolved. Whether Morata’s preference to be based in the Spanish capital is enough to bridge the gap between a Champions League-level CV and a second-division loan will determine how quickly, if at all, the deal crosses the line.
