Mercedes seal 2026 constructors' title as Wolff draws level with Sir Frank Williams
Mercedes clinched the 2026 Formula 1 constructors' championship at the Brazilian Grand Prix with three races to spare, prompting F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali to hail Toto Wolff's ninth title — matching the record held by Sir Frank Williams.
Mercedes secured the 2026 Formula 1 constructors’ championship at the Brazilian Grand Prix after George Russell and Kimi Antonelli finished fourth and fifth respectively, leaving second-placed Ferrari mathematically unable to close the gap with three rounds remaining. F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali marked the occasion with a public statement praising the Brackley team and singling out team principal Toto Wolff for a landmark achievement.
Wolff’s ninth constructors’ title draws him level with the late Sir Frank Williams, making him only the second team principal in the sport’s history to reach that figure. Domenicali was direct in acknowledging the significance: “With his ninth constructors’ title, my friend Toto Wolff draws level with the great Sir Frank Williams, one of Formula 1’s true legends. To stand alongside Frank in the record books is an extraordinary achievement and a powerful testament to Toto’s leadership, vision and relentless pursuit of excellence over so many years.”
The F1 CEO was equally keen to spread credit across the entire organisation. “Reaching the summit of Formula 1 is never the achievement of one person alone,” he wrote. “It is the result of extraordinary talent, relentless determination and the shared belief of hundreds of people, at the circuit and back at the factory, all united by the same ambition.”
Mercedes has been the dominant force throughout the 2026 season, accumulating 12 grand prix victories and four sprint wins across its two drivers. The constructors’ triumph arrives just one week after Antonelli claimed the drivers’ championship at the Mexican Grand Prix, becoming the youngest world champion in Formula 1 history.
Domenicali acknowledged the double achievement in his closing remarks. “To win the constructors’ championship in the same season that Kimi Antonelli became the youngest ever drivers’ world champion makes 2026 truly unforgettable for Mercedes and for Formula 1,” he said. “This is what our sport is all about: dreaming big, pushing beyond the limits, and proving what is possible when great people come together with one shared purpose.”
Wolff’s nine constructors’ titles span a remarkable run that includes eight consecutive championships from 2014 to 2021, a period that redefined expectations in the modern era of the sport. The 2026 crown confirms Mercedes’ return to the top after a difficult transition through the regulation changes that followed that dynasty.
