Laciné Megnan-Pavé will remain at Montpellier. MHSC announced on Thursday the contract extension of its 16-year-old striker until 2029, definitively sweeping away rumours of a departure to Paris Saint-Germain, a club that had shown interest during the summer.

Born on 7 March 2010 in Montpellier, Megnan-Pavé has already made his mark on the Paillade’s history on several occasions. In February, he became the youngest player to sign a first professional contract with the club, at just 15 years old. A few months later, he scored his first Ligue 2 goal on his debut against Dijon (1-1), simultaneously becoming the youngest player and youngest goalscorer in MHSC history.

After a quieter period, the young striker found the back of the net on Monday in the victory at Rodez (0-3). Trained at the club since the age of six, he did not hesitate when the board proposed an extension. “When the directors spoke to me about it, I didn’t hesitate and said yes straight away. Seeing all this confidence placed in me here, that weighed on my decision to extend at MHSC,” he said. “Extending was not just an option for me, it was obvious.”

Megnan-Pavé also spoke of the emotion of his debut at Stade de La Mosson: “When I came on for the first time against Dijon, it was my dream. Seeing the supporters applaud at the end of the match, that was something special.” His name was already on the radar of many European scouts; the extension until 2029 secures one of French football’s most precocious talents.
