Rhys McKee will face Ernesto Rodriguez at PFL Dubai on November 14 in a welterweight matchup that carries genuine ranking implications for the Northern Irish fighter. The bout was confirmed for the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai, with McKee declaring a win would move him straight into the PFL’s welterweight standings.

“I’ve seen how big an event is there and know it’ll be a special night, having a fight that will put me straight into the rankings with a tough opponent in Ernesto; it’s all to play for,” McKee said.

McKee (15-7-1), nicknamed “Skeletor”, arrives with momentum after a decision victory over Alex Lohore at PFL Belfast in April — a successful debut in the promotion following two difficult stints in the UFC. He went 0-2 in his first UFC run and 1-3 in his second, sandwiching a Cage Warriors championship campaign in between. The PFL has offered him a cleaner slate, and a ranking entry would represent a significant step toward title contention.

Rodriguez, meanwhile, carries the motivation of a fighter with a point to prove. The Cuban-American went into his July bout with Thad Jean on short notice and challenged for the PFL welterweight title, only to be stopped by technical knockout in the third round. He is 1-1 in the promotion and will be looking to reassert himself as a contender at the Dubai event.

The matchup pits two fighters at contrasting points in their PFL arcs — McKee building upward from a debut win, Rodriguez attempting to recover from a high-profile setback — which gives the November 14 card a compelling welterweight storyline ahead of what promises to be a major international event for the promotion.
