McGregor's $100-bill shorts draw ridicule from fans ahead of UFC 329 comeback

Conor McGregor’s return to the UFC Octagon on July 11 at UFC 329 in Las Vegas is generating plenty of attention, though not all of it is focused on his opponent. The former two-division champion has been sharing training footage on Instagram ahead of his rematch with Max Holloway, and a pair of green shorts covered in $100 U.S. bill prints have become an unlikely talking point.

The reaction in McGregor’s comments section was swift and largely unkind. “Tacky,” wrote one user. “Trash,” said another. A third offered perhaps the sharpest verdict: “It looks like he got those in a multi-pack of boxer shorts that were on a clearance sale.” Not every response was negative — some fans defended the look, with one calling the custom shorts “fire” and another simply writing “Amazing Conor” — but the critical voices dominated.

Whether McGregor will actually wear the shorts at UFC 329 remains unconfirmed. Custom fight-night kits have become increasingly common in the UFC in recent years, and the polarising design is already available for purchase through Venum’s website.

The fashion debate arrives as McGregor prepares for his most significant fight in years. He has not competed since suffering a broken leg against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July 2021, a five-year gap that has only heightened scrutiny around his comeback. His opponent, Max Holloway, is coming off a BMF title loss to Charles Oliveira, meaning both men will be looking to return to the win column.

The two fighters first met in 2013, with McGregor winning that bout by decision. A decade-plus on, the rematch at UFC 329 carries considerably higher stakes — and, apparently, a more colourful wardrobe.
