Mathis Jangeal leaves PSG for Famalicão despite professional offer
Gambardella Cup winner and French U19 champion, attacking midfielder Mathis Jangeal (18) is joining Portuguese club Famalicão, turning down a professional contract offered by Paris Saint-Germain.
Paris Saint-Germain is losing a second academy talent in a matter of days. According to Le Parisien, attacking midfielder Mathis Jangeal, soon to turn 18, is set to join Famalicão, who finished fifth in the Primeira Liga last season, despite a professional contract offer from the Paris club.
The departure comes shortly after the announcement of defender Hermann Malonga’s, 18, transfer to Manchester City. Jangeal preferred the Portuguese project to several German offers — Stuttgart, Hamburg and Frankfurt had also expressed interest — attracted by the prospect of regular playing time within a predominantly young squad.
The loss is significant for PSG. Jangeal had impressed with the youth teams, notably in the Gambardella Cup final against Montpellier (3-2), where he scored twice and provided an assist. These performances earned him two appearances with the first team this season: eleven minutes against Auxerre (2-0) in Ligue 1 matchday 6, then forty-five minutes against Fontenay (4-0) in the Coupe de France round of 32.
French U19 champion and Gambardella winner, the player had a solid youth record to claim a place in PSG’s professional squad. His choice to join Portugal nonetheless reflects a clear priority: accumulate playing time in the short term rather than wait in the shadow of a well-stocked Ligue 1 squad.
