Manchester City has recruited Elliott Anderson for €135 million, making the 23-year-old midfielder the most expensive player in the club’s history and the most expensive English player of all time.

The Premier League runners-up confirmed the signing early in the afternoon. Anderson, who has played for Nottingham Forest since 2024, thus surpasses Jack Grealish at the top of Manchester City’s most costly signings. He also overtakes Jude Bellingham, who was transferred to Real Madrid for €127 million in 2023, and establishes himself as the most expensive English player in football history.

This recruitment is part of a particularly eventful summer transfer window in the Premier League, also marked by Tottenham’s spending. Spurs officially announced Thursday morning the arrival of Mateus Fernandes from West Ham for €99 million — a club record — and are reportedly close to securing the services of Sandro Tonali, who is leaving Newcastle for €115 million.

For Anderson, the pressure matches the investment. The English midfielder has now accumulated over €175 million in transfers throughout his career, a staggering figure for a player not yet in his thirties.
