Manchester United face losing highly-rated 16-year-old JJ Gabriel for as little as £300,000 in compensation, with his representatives placing a total package value of £8.5million (€10m) on the teenager as he trains alone in Barcelona and seeks first-team football elsewhere.

Gabriel’s family and super-agent Ali Barat have already held four meetings with European clubs — Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain — and a move to Spain remains the preferred destination, according to Spanish publication Sport. Barcelona sporting director Deco has publicly denied the club’s interest, yet Gabriel previously travelled to the Catalan city to receive a proposal from the club.

The reported £8.5m package breaks down into a three-year contract worth more than €1m (£850,000) per season, agent commissions, family compensation, and a payment to United. Should Gabriel sign a pre-contract agreement with a club outside England, United’s share of that total could fall to just £300,000 — a fraction of his perceived market value.

Gabriel’s path to the exit began after a pre-season in which his family expected him to earn meaningful minutes in senior competition. There had been an expectation that he would feature in United’s Champions League fixture against Sabah and the Carabao Cup tie with Brighton, with a Premier League debut pencilled in for October 25. Those appearances did not materialise, and the teenager has since indicated he wants to leave Old Trafford due to a lack of first-team opportunities.

His representatives also made four specific requests to the club, including assurances over the number 77 shirt and permission to have ‘Gabriel JR’ printed on the back of his jersey. The situation has since escalated into open controversy, with Gabriel now training away from United’s facilities.

The one remaining contractual thread tying Gabriel to Old Trafford is his Premier League youth registration, which cannot be dissolved without the agreement of all parties — the club, the player, and his parent or legal guardian. That requirement gives United some leverage in negotiations, but the momentum appears to be firmly pointing toward a departure.
