Maddison Levi and Luciano Gonzalez headline Ultimate Sevens' first 16 marquee signings
Ultimate Sevens has confirmed its first 16 marquee players for Season One of the new global championship, launching in September. World Rugby Sevens Players of the Year Maddison Levi and Luciano Gonzalez lead a group that also includes three-time Olympian Henry Hutchison and Paris gold medallist Jazmin Felix-Hotham.
Ultimate Sevens has announced its first 16 marquee players for Season One of the new global club championship, with Australia’s Maddison Levi and Argentina’s Luciano Gonzalez leading the group ahead of the competition’s September launch.
Levi and Gonzalez both claimed World Rugby Sevens Player of the Year honours following the 2025 HSBC SVNS Series finale in Los Angeles, and were each named in the 2026 Dream Team. Their inclusion signals the ambition of a competition that will feature six clubs — each fielding men’s and women’s teams — across four European cities.
Three-time Olympian Henry Hutchison and Paris gold medallist Jazmin Felix-Hotham are also among the 16, as is Australia captain Isabella Nasser, who joins teammates Faith Nathan and Heidi Dennis just weeks after the Australians won the HSBC SVNS World Championship. Abbie Brown, Charlton Kerr, Jimena Blanco-Hortiguera, Krissy Scurfield, Lucas Lacamp, Manu Moreno, Roderick Solo, Stephen Tomasin and Thalia Costa complete the inaugural group.
Tomasin captained the USA throughout the recent three-event SVNS World Championship, a campaign that ended with the Eagles securing promotion to the top division on the final play of their final match — Lacamp scoring the decisive try against Fiji.
“Marquee players are incredibly important to what we are building,” said Tom Mitchell, Sports and Innovation Director at Ultimate Sevens. “They set the standard, bring quality, leadership and personality, and help people understand why sevens is such a special sport. This group represents so much of what Ultimate Sevens is about — speed, skill, ambition and character.”
Managing Director Barny Pascall framed the announcement as a structural statement of intent. “Confirming our first marquee players is a major moment for Ultimate Sevens,” he said. “From day one, our ambition has been to build a Championship around the athletes and to create a stage that reflects their talent, their value and their impact. The marquee player model gives us a way to recognise the highest value players in the Championship, but also to work more closely with them as leaders, storytellers and ambassadors for the sport.”
