Luis Enrique denounces unequal treatment ahead of PSG-Rennes at Roazhon Park
On the eve of PSG's trip to Rennes for Ligue 1's opening day, Luis Enrique expressed frustration over the fixture swap forced by poor pitch conditions at Parc des Princes, denouncing a breach of the principle of equality between teams.
Luis Enrique voiced his displeasure at a press conference on Friday, ahead of PSG’s trip to Rennes for the Ligue 1 opener. The match, originally scheduled at Parc des Princes, was relocated to Roazhon Park due to a pitch deemed unplayable at Porte de Saint-Cloud.
The Spanish manager targeted the principle behind the arrangement. “When you start a competition, there is a very important principle: equality between all teams. It is not possible to play twice away against the same team,” he said. Paris intends to host Rennes in the return fixture in March, a prospect the Breton club refuses, arguing they are doing the LFP and PSG a favor while losing revenue due to the hastily organized match.
Despite his irritation, Luis Enrique tempered his expectations for the evening. “You have to adapt to circumstances and the schedule. I would like another option but that’s how it is. We are a team that motivates our opponents. It will be tight,” he conceded.
The Paris manager also did not hide his frustration following the Trophée des Champions defeat to Monaco at Lens (1-0) the previous weekend. “We played very well at Lens, the result does not reflect what we did. Football is unjust sometimes,” he said.
Luis Enrique also addressed the three-match suspension handed to Nuno Mendes, who was sent off for a poor gesture during that same match at Bollaert. Without openly contesting the sanction, he issued an indirect warning to his Portuguese defender: “There will be provocations, you have to know how to manage that.”
