Liverpool could re-sign Alexander-Arnold as Bournemouth set £100m price for Alex Scott
Real Madrid's reported pursuit of Pedro Porro could open the door for Trent Alexander-Arnold to return to Anfield, while Bournemouth have placed a £100m price tag on midfielder Alex Scott, with Liverpool said to be in a strong position to sign him.
Liverpool are monitoring two significant transfer developments as Andoni Iraola looks to strengthen his squad in January, with a potential Trent Alexander-Arnold return emerging and Bournemouth setting a £100m asking price for midfielder Alex Scott.
Alexander-Arnold has started just three of Real Madrid’s eight La Liga games this season, with José Mourinho preferring summer signing Denzel Dumfries at right-back. According to SER Deportivos, Madrid have renewed interest in Tottenham’s Pedro Porro, who was a target before he signed a new contract at Spurs — a deal that ultimately led the club to sign Dumfries from Inter Milan instead. Porro, part of Spain’s World Cup-winning squad last summer, is now said to be seeking clarity on Madrid’s interest, with Barcelona also reported to have made enquiries.
Should Madrid move for Porro, it could accelerate Alexander-Arnold’s departure and open the door for a return to his boyhood club. Liverpool have struggled to fill the void left by the England international, with Conor Bradley hampered by injury and Jeremie Frimpong failing to convince since his £30m arrival last year.
On the midfield front, Iraola could be reunited with Alex Scott, the 23-year-old he managed at Bournemouth after the player joined the club in 2023. Scott made 89 appearances under the Spaniard and attracted interest from Liverpool, Chelsea, and Manchester United during the summer window, though Bournemouth refused to sell. The south-coast club have since softened their stance following talks with Scott’s representatives, and are now open to a sale if a club meets their £100m valuation.
According to BBC Sport, Liverpool are considered to be in a strong position in the race for Scott despite competition from other clubs. The midfielder is currently sidelined until November after aggravating a thigh injury on international duty with England.
The transfer speculation comes at a difficult moment for Liverpool, who sit ninth in the Premier League after just two wins from their opening six games. A 3-0 home defeat to Manchester City on Sunday was their first league loss of the season and has heaped pressure on Iraola to address clear weaknesses in the squad.
