Laporta proclaims Barcelona best team in Europe after nine wins in nine matches
Unbeaten in La Liga and the UEFA Champions League with 39 goals scored, FC Barcelona heads to Galatasaray with full confidence. Club president Joan Laporta has not hesitated to designate his team as the best in the world.
Joan Laporta displayed unwavering confidence ahead of FC Barcelona’s trip to Galatasaray on Tuesday, stating that the Blaugranas are currently playing “the best football in Europe and, consequently, the best in the world”.
The numbers back up these claims: nine wins in nine matches across all competitions, eight consecutive victories in La Liga that place Barcelona six points ahead of Real Madrid, and a commanding 5-1 victory over Feyenoord in the UEFA Champions League. In total, 39 goals scored since the start of the season.
The Catalan president nevertheless acknowledged the quality of his competitors. “Other teams that are also performing very well, such as PSG or Bayern Munich, are candidates to win the competitions we are participating in. And there is always a team that creates a surprise, we must take that into account,” he said in comments reported by Marca.
Laporta nonetheless maintained his position on his club’s current footballing superiority. “In terms of footballing quality, I think that, for now, we are the ones playing the best. And moreover, we play better and we offer a beautiful spectacle. This allows supporters, and especially our fans, to have a good time. Our game is entertaining, I like that.”
The match against Galatasaray constitutes Barcelona’s second European fixture of the season, in a UEFA Champions League group that they are approaching with the stated ambition of going all the way.
