Kolo Muani snatches victory for Juventus at Vigo in extra time
Randal Kolo Muani scored the decisive goal in the 92nd minute to secure a 2-1 victory for Juventus away at Celta Vigo, propelling the Turin side to the top of the Ligue Europa league phase.
Randal Kolo Muani rescued Juventus from a disappointing result in Galicia: the French striker, brought on in the 64th minute, scored the winning goal in the 92nd to seal a 2-1 victory away at Celta Vigo, in the second matchday of the Ligue Europa league phase.
The Old Lady had a difficult start to the evening. Hugo Alvarez opened the scoring for Celta as early as the 18th minute, and the Turin side had to wait until the 58th to equalize through Nick Woltemade, signed this summer. The score remained locked at 1-1 until Kolo Muani’s decisive intervention in extra time, which prevented Juventus from dropping precious points.
This victory places the Italian club at the top of the league phase standings. Juventus will soon face Stade Rennais, who also won on Thursday by overturning OFI Crete at Roazhon Park (2-1).
Among other notable results from this European evening, AC Milan delivered a dominant performance at Salzburg (0-4), securing their first Ligue Europa victory after an opening defeat to Benfica. That same Benfica proved ruthless against Celtic Glasgow (4-1).
Besiktas, who eliminated Olympique Marseille on matchday one, continued with a hard-fought victory in Germany against Hoffenheim (2-3). The Germans, who will face Olympique Lyonnais in a week, therefore approached this match in difficult circumstances. Finally, Sunderland, managed by Régis Le Bris, won at Torreense (1-2).
