Kane verbally agrees £400k-a-week Bayern extension but misses out on extra year
Harry Kane has reached a verbal agreement with Bayern Munich on a contract worth £400,000 a week that will keep him at the Allianz Arena until 2029 — one year short of the 33-year-old's preferred term.
Harry Kane has verbally agreed a new contract with Bayern Munich worth £400,000 a week, with the deal set to keep the England striker in Germany until 2029, according to The Times. The agreement falls one year short of the 2030 expiry date Kane had sought, with Bayern holding firm on a two-year extension.
The two parties have been in discussions since Kane returned from the World Cup, and Bayern’s director of sport Max Eberl confirmed progress earlier this month, saying: “There are talks behind the scenes and they have gone well.” The club is aiming to finalise the extension before the Ballon d’Or ceremony on 26 October, at which Kane is among the favourites.
Kane’s current deal expires at the end of this season, meaning he could technically leave on a free transfer, but there has been no suggestion the striker has any desire to move on. He and his family are reported to be settled in Germany, reinforcing his commitment to the Bavarians.
The 33-year-old has been one of European football’s most prolific forwards since joining from Tottenham Hotspur in 2023. Last season he scored 61 goals in 51 appearances — the highest single-season total of his career — and in September he reached 100 Bundesliga goals in just 98 appearances, breaking a record that had stood since 1977.
During his time at the Allianz Arena, Kane has collected two Bundesliga titles — the first major trophy of his career — along with the German Cup and the German Super Cup.
The decision to remain in Munich makes it increasingly unlikely that Kane will ever challenge Alan Shearer’s all-time Premier League goalscoring record of 250. Kane left England with 213 goals, 37 behind Shearer’s mark, and will be approaching his 36th birthday by the time his new deal concludes at the end of the 2028-29 season.
