Kane reveals he will seriously explore MLS move and NFL kicker dream after Bayern

Harry Kane has opened the door to a dual career in American sport, telling reporters on Wednesday that he intends to explore the possibility of playing in Major League Soccer while simultaneously pursuing his long-held ambition of becoming an NFL kicker.

The England captain, 33, made the comments ahead of his country’s Nations League fixture against World Cup holders Spain on Saturday. Kane suggested the overlapping schedules of MLS and the NFL could make the combination logistically viable — an idea he has previously floated but never pursued in concrete terms.

“Maybe if I am in the MLS in the future or somewhere like that, it might be a thing where you could connect the two maybe with the seasons,” Kane said. “That is something I will try and look at a bit more seriously. It all depends on what happens in my career over the next five or six years, the motivation and what I want to do.”

The former Tottenham Hotspur forward drew a direct comparison between NFL place-kicking and taking penalties, arguing his existing skill set puts him closer to that discipline than most footballers. “I take penalties and it is a very similar pressure, technique,” he said. “If I did that, in terms of training, I would be closer to that more than any other sport.”

Kane, a long-time admirer of Tom Brady, added that any serious attempt at the NFL would require significant preparation. “If I was to do it, it is something I would take seriously. I would take maybe six months to a year of trying to practice before.”

For now, though, Kane’s focus remains firmly on Bayern Munich, where he is in his fourth season and has won two Bundesliga titles. He is coming off a standout campaign in which he scored 73 goals — a return that has placed him among the contenders for next month’s Ballon d’Or ceremony in London.

Kane also revealed he is “fairly close” to agreeing a new contract with the German champions, suggesting his immediate future will be settled in Bavaria before any transatlantic adventure becomes a realistic prospect.
