Kane reaches 100 Bundesliga goals in 98 games, faster than any player in history

Harry Kane became the fastest player in Bundesliga history to score 100 goals, reaching the landmark in just 98 appearances during Bayern Munich’s 7-0 thrashing of Union Berlin on Friday night.

The England striker’s brace in the rout took his tally to 101 league goals, eclipsing the previous record held by Dieter Müller, who needed 129 games to reach a century. Bayern legend Gerd Müller — widely regarded as one of the greatest strikers of all time and the club’s all-time leading scorer — required 136 games to hit the same mark.

Across all competitions since joining Bayern from Tottenham Hotspur in 2023, Kane now has 152 goals in 154 appearances. Last season alone he scored a staggering 61 goals in 51 games under Vincent Kompany, finishing with 73 for the campaign — the second-highest single-season tally in football history.

“I’m very proud to reach 101 Bundesliga goals,” Kane told Sky Germany after the match. “In the short time I’ve been here, I’ve loved every second of it. When I’m playing with these players I’m going to get chances. To have more goals than games is obviously a great stat to have.”

Kane’s form has placed him firmly in contention for the Ballon d’Or, which will be awarded in London later this year. A win would make him the first Englishman to claim the Golden Ball since Michael Owen in 2001. Speaking to Marca, Kane was characteristically measured about his chances.

“I’ve never liked to talk about myself too much,” he said. “The only thing I would say is that last season was incredible, on a personal level and as a team. It was, by far, the best season of my life. It’s true that to finish on 73 goals, the second-highest tally in history, speaks for itself. But the Ballon d’Or is not in my hands.”

Kane is not the only Bayern player making a case for the award. Teammate Michael Olise, who was named the Bundesliga’s best player last season ahead of Kane, struck a hat-trick in the same 7-0 win over Union Berlin. Both men had their respective World Cup campaigns ended at the semi-final stage in the summer, with Kane representing England and Olise lining up for France.

With six goals in seven Bundesliga appearances already this season, Kane shows no sign of slowing down as he continues to rewrite the record books in Germany.
