Kane eyes MLS move and NFL placekicker career after hanging up his boots

Harry Kane has mapped out a post-football future that could take him to Major League Soccer and, potentially, onto an NFL field as a placekicker, the England captain revealed in a wide-ranging interview.

Kane, 33, said a move to the United States later in his career would be the most logical path toward combining two sports. “The NFL is a lot more realistic than the golf one, let’s put it that way,” he said. “I think it is something I am used to kicking more than using my hands. I take penalties and it is a very similar pressure, technique.”

The Bayern Munich striker — who is expected to extend his contract at the Bundesliga club — acknowledged he would approach any NFL ambition with full commitment. “If I was to do it, it is something I would take seriously. I would take six months to a year to try and practice before,” he added.

Kane, a friend and admirer of former New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, suggested that a future MLS spell could open the door to NFL conversations. “Maybe if I am in the MLS in the future or somewhere like that, it might be a thing where you could connect the two maybe with the seasons,” he said.

Professional golf, another sport Kane has long flirted with, has been firmly ruled out after honest self-assessment. A member at Wentworth, Kane plays off a handicap of two but says the gap to tour level is simply too large. “I shoot 10 over. Then I watch the pros, who played there last week, and 20 under wins it. I think I’ll stick to football.”

For now, Kane insists retirement is not on his mind. “I am trying to extract everything I can from the last two, five or 10 years, I will keep going,” he said, pushing back on any suggestion that turning 33 should prompt thoughts of winding down.
