Kane acknowledges ongoing discussions over Bayern contract extension

Harry Kane acknowledged that negotiations over his contract extension with Bayern Munich are still in their early stages, despite a reassuring tone. The 33-year-old English striker, under contract until June 2027, raised the subject following Bayern’s 5-1 victory over Stuttgart in the opening day of the Bundesliga.

“The first meeting took place this week. But these things don’t get sorted in a week or two. There will still be many discussions about the details,” Kane said. While the broad strokes appear to be accepted by both parties, points of friction remain — chief among them the length of the future contract, with two or three years being discussed according to Marca, which describes the negotiations as at an “impasse”.

Kane plays down this bleak picture: “It’s going well. For now, everything is fine. We’ll continue discussions over the coming weeks and see what comes out of it.” The striker nevertheless insists on the importance of the agreement for him personally: “I need to be certain I’m satisfied, and the club needs to be too. The positive thing is that we’re all calm.”

Arriving in Munich in summer 2023 after spending his entire career at Tottenham without winning a single trophy, Kane quickly filled that void by establishing himself as one of Europe’s best strikers. The question of his future at Bayern takes on an urgent dimension, however: from 1 January next, he will be legally free to sign a pre-contract with the club of his choice for the following season.
