Jock Campbell, Hunter Paisami and Josh Flook depart Queensland Reds after contract conclusions
Queensland Reds have farewelled three Wallabies backs — Jock Campbell, Hunter Paisami and Josh Flook — along with prospects Frankie Goldsbrough, Will McCulloch and Hamish Muller, as all six players leave the club at the end of their contracts.
Queensland Reds have confirmed the departures of Wallabies backs Jock Campbell, Hunter Paisami and Josh Flook, with all three leaving the Brisbane club at the conclusion of their contracts. Promising youngsters Frankie Goldsbrough, Will McCulloch and Hamish Muller have also moved on, bringing the total number of exits to six.
Reds General Manager of High Performance Sam Cordingley paid tribute to the outgoing players. “On behalf of the Reds and Queensland Rugby, I’d like to thank Josh, Jock and Hunter for their significant contributions to rugby in Queensland over many years. Each has made a lasting contribution and helped make the Reds program better,” he said. Cordingley also acknowledged the younger trio, adding: “While each has faced challenges with injury, they are all still early in their careers, and I’m confident they have plenty more to offer the game.”
Campbell’s exit marks the end of an eight-year association with the club. The 31-year-old fullback reached the 100-game milestone last season and was named Reds Player of the Year, a run of form that earned him a Wallabies recall after a gap of 1,316 days without Test rugby. He started against Ireland in the July Nations Championship Tests and came off the bench against France at Suncorp Stadium, before captaining Queensland against the British & Irish Lions in July 2025. Rumours of a move to Japan now surround the experienced back.
“It’s been a heck of a journey over the past eight years,” Campbell said. “Those milestones of 100 games and captaining Queensland seem a bit surreal right now. It will be in the years to come that I appreciate them even more. It’s time for something new and I’m looking forward to what that holds.”
Flook, who made 70 appearances for the Reds, is heading to Italian side Benetton Rugby on a one-year deal with an option for a further season in 2028. The winger was part of the Queensland side that ended a lengthy title drought by defeating the ACT Brumbies in the Super Rugby AU Grand Final, a moment he described as a career highlight.
Muller was the most prominent of the three younger departures, having featured 12 times in Super Rugby Pacific. Goldsbrough and McCulloch also made appearances for the Reds despite battling injury during their time at the club.
