Injured Kvaratskhelia pushes PSG towards Bayer Leverkusen's Ibrahim Maza
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia's anterior cruciate ligament rupture, suffered against Barcelona in the Champions League, is forcing PSG to explore the winter transfer market. The Paris club has reportedly intensified its interest in Ibrahim Maza, a 20-year-old Algerian attacking midfielder from Bayer Leverkusen.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia left PSG’s victory over FC Barcelona (4-2) in the Ligue des Champions on Tuesday evening with a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament. The Georgian winger could miss the rest of the season, forcing the Paris club to consider an attacking reinforcement in the January transfer window.
According to journalist Ekrem Konur, PSG has “intensified its interest” in Ibrahim Maza, a 20-year-old Algerian attacking midfielder at Bayer Leverkusen. Luis Enrique and sporting director Luis Campos are both reportedly attracted to the player’s profile, described as a “long-term creative reinforcement” for the Paris attack.
Maza is not without competition, however. Manchester City, Arsenal and Atlético Madrid are also reportedly in the running to secure the services of the young Algerian international, which promises to drive up the bidding during the January window.
Under Carles Martinez at Leverkusen, Maza boasts solid statistics for his age: 3 goals and 3 assists since the start of the season. A regular starter for the back-to-back European champions, he has established himself as one of the most promising attacking talents in the Bundesliga.
