Huijsen banned and Real Madrid warned over kick-off times after Atlético derby

Dean Huijsen will miss one domestic fixture after the RFEF’s Comité de Disciplina confirmed his suspension on 23 September, with Real Madrid also receiving a formal institutional warning over adherence to official match timings — a separate sanction directed at the club rather than any individual.

Huijsen was sent off during the Atlético Madrid–Real Madrid derby for an incident inside his own penalty area involving Atlético forward Giuliano Simeone. The resulting one-match ban in domestic competition means Real Madrid’s centre-back is unavailable for their next La Liga fixture.

The disciplinary resolution also extended to both technical benches. Ignacio Pablo Vercellone, a member of Atlético’s coaching staff, and Pedro Luis Ferreira, on Real Madrid’s bench, each received one-match suspensions. Atlético head coach Diego Simeone was cautioned for making observations, gestures or objections toward the officiating team — the same category of offence applied to Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumfries, who was sanctioned for similar conduct. Jude Bellingham and Cristian ‘Cuti’ Romero were both cautioned for dangerous play, while Marc Pubill was sanctioned for a separate infringement under the Laws of the Game.

The most unusual element of the resolution concerns Real Madrid as a club. The Comité de Disciplina issued a specific written reminder instructing the club to take the necessary measures to ensure strict adherence to official kick-off and half-time timings across all upcoming fixtures. The committee’s wording, published verbatim in the resolution, constitutes a formal warning that places Real Madrid under explicit RFEF scrutiny on scheduling discipline going forward.

With Huijsen, Vercellone and Ferreira all serving one-match bans, both clubs face immediate planning considerations ahead of their next domestic outings.
