Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is moving closer to leaving Olympique de Marseille, with two Italian clubs in the running: Juventus and AS Roma. The summer transfer window is drawing to a close and OM, which has already sold Mason Greenwood, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Geronimo Rulli, is looking to lighten a wage bill burdened by the 500,000 euros per month earned by the Danish international.

According to journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, AS Roma has identified Hojbjerg’s profile in the event of Manu Koné’s departure. But Roma manager Gian Piero Gasperini is firmly opposed to selling his French midfielder, which makes this scenario uncertain in the short term. Chelsea would nevertheless be interested in Koné, a lead that could revive the matter. Hojbjerg’s personal agent is handling negotiations with Roma directly.

Juventus remains the most advanced option, with a loan deal with an obligation to buy being discussed as a possible transfer structure. In August, a move to Newcastle had been explored, but Hojbjerg had declined that destination.

OM therefore has little time to complete a sale that would ease its finances, in a context where the Marseille club is among the most active in the Ligue 1 summer transfer market.
