Hall reveals Jaissle's vision was the 'no-brainer' that kept him at Newcastle over Man United

Lewis Hall has dismissed any lingering doubt over his future at Newcastle, saying it was a “no-brainer” to snub Manchester United’s summer advances once he understood the vision of new head coach Matthias Jaissle. The 22-year-old left-back has since signed a long-term contract at St James’ Park and earned a recall to the England squad under Thomas Tuchel.

United were in the market for a left-back during the summer window and registered strong interest in Hall, but a move never materialised. Hall told Chronicle Live that the speculation did not unsettle him — he took it as validation of his performances — but his mind was quickly made up once Jaissle arrived.

“I knew how much I love playing here and I knew that since the manager came in, I knew the ambitions and what we wanted to achieve,” Hall said. “After not many conversations, not many training sessions, I knew that the manager was going to be really good for this club and I knew that as a team, bringing in new players and improving the squad was really important and as soon as we did that, it was a no-brainer really to sign.”

A product of Chelsea’s academy, Hall has made 109 appearances for Newcastle across three seasons, establishing himself as a first-choice option at left-back. He has been one of the early standouts under Jaissle and scored in Saturday’s 2-1 win over Hull City — form that contributed to Tuchel restoring him to the England setup after he had been left out of the head coach’s initial World Cup plans.

Hall acknowledged that transfer speculation is unlikely to disappear, but said his focus remains firmly on Newcastle’s collective ambitions. “I’m just taking it game by game, just trying to do the best I can for this club,” he said. “We’ve got ambitions and as long as we achieve these ambitions and achieve what we want to achieve, I’m sure I’ll be here for a long time.”
