Antoine Griezmann pulled Orlando City out of their slump with a decisive brace against Real Salt Lake (2-1) on Saturday night in MLS. The 2018 World Cup winner, who had scored just once in five league matches, equalized in the 53rd minute before delighting the 17,000 supporters of the Florida club in the 81st.

The 35-year-old French international had not yet impressed since arriving in Florida, but his two goals ended a run of three matches without a victory for Orlando. The club climbs to 9th place in the Eastern Conference, but must string together positive results to secure a playoff spot: 13 regular season matches remain to be played. Griezmann plays in a modest team, notably alongside Croatian winger Marco Pasalic, who played for Borussia Dortmund, and Slovenian centre-back David Brekalo. Orlando finished 14th in the overall standings last season.

Elsewhere in the multiplex, Lionel Messi scored his 14th MLS goal of the season on a pass from Rodrigo de Paul, but it was not enough to prevent Inter Miami’s home defeat to Toronto FC (1-2). The Florida club, second in the East, suffers a setback that slightly complicates its position at the top of the conference.

Another highlight of the evening saw Denis Bouanga score a spectacular strike with Los Angeles FC in the draw against Portland Timbers (1-1). The Franco-Gabonese forward has established himself over four seasons as one of the most prominent players in the North American championship.
