Griezmann curls in stunning strike from outside the box, reaches 14 goals in 16 matches with Orlando
Antoine Griezmann scored a spectacular curling goal from outside the penalty area against Chicago Fire (2-2), bringing his tally to 14 goals and 7 assists in 16 MLS matches.
Antoine Griezmann signed a sixth consecutive match with at least a goal or assist in Orlando City colours on Wednesday evening against Chicago Fire, in a match that ended in a 2-2 draw.
The 35-year-old French striker first played the role of provider, delivering the assist for Ivan Angulo’s opening goal in the 6th minute, before taking matters into his own hands in the 35th. His curling strike from outside the penalty area, precise and powerful, beat the opposing goalkeeper to put Orlando 2-0 up. The Floridians ultimately failed to hold on, conceding the equaliser in the second half.
This goal brings Griezmann’s total to 14 goals and 7 assists in just 16 matches since his arrival in MLS this summer, following a long career in La Liga shared between Real Sociedad, FC Barcelona and especially Atlético Madrid. These figures remain below those of Lionel Messi at Inter Miami — 25 goals and 12 assists — but confirm that the 2018 World Cup winner retains a remarkable level of production at the start of this new chapter.
