Glasgow Warriors part ways with assistant coach Roddy Grant after internal process
Glasgow Warriors have confirmed that forwards assistant Roddy Grant has left Scotstoun with immediate effect following an internal process. The URC's second-placed side say Grant will not be replaced for the remainder of the 2026/27 season.
Glasgow Warriors have parted ways with assistant coach Roddy Grant with immediate effect, the URC club confirmed, following the conclusion of an internal process. The club offered no further detail on the circumstances, citing confidentiality.
Grant, 39, joined Glasgow in the summer of 2025 and worked with the forwards, specialising in breakdown and contact work. Head coach Franco Smith will not bring in a replacement for the rest of the 2026/27 campaign, with the existing staff — Nigel Carolan (attack) and Scott Forrest (defence), supported by academy coaches Shade Munro and Duncan Weir — continuing as before.
The club’s full statement read: “Glasgow Warriors can confirm that Roddy Grant has left the club following the conclusion of an internal process. Grant will not be replaced for the remainder of the 2026/27 season; the club will continue with its existing coaching structure. For reasons of confidentiality, the club will not be providing any further comment.”
Born in Botswana, Grant is a former Edinburgh flanker and Scotland 7s player who moved into coaching in 2015, beginning with London Scottish and the Scottish Rugby Academy. A five-year stint at Ulster represents his longest tenure at a single club before he joined Edinburgh as forwards coach in 2017 under Richard Cockerill. He subsequently had a brief spell assisting Cockerill with the Georgia national team before arriving at Scotstoun.
The timing is notable given Glasgow’s strong league position. Smith’s side currently sit second in the URC table, making Grant’s exit an unexpected development mid-season for one of the competition’s form teams.
