Olivier Giroud announced that the 2024-2025 season with LOSC will very likely be the last of his professional career. The French striker, who celebrates his 40th birthday this Wednesday, shared this confidence in an interview with L’Équipe. “We could do interviews next year, with pleasure, but as a player, I think this is very likely my last season. That’s why I’m making the most of every moment,” he said.

A career spanning nearly twenty years is thus set to come to a close. Giroud began in Ligue 2 with Grenoble in 2006 before establishing himself as one of the most decorated French strikers of his generation. Five and a half years at Arsenal, two and a half seasons at Chelsea, a spell at AC Milan, then a stint in MLS with Los Angeles FC: his journey has crossed the greatest European and North American leagues.

His trophy cabinet bears witness to this. World Cup winner with France in 2018, Giroud also won the Scudetto with Milan in 2022, the US Open Cup with Los Angeles FC in 2024, the Ligue des Champions in 2021, the Ligue Europa in 2019, four FA Cups (2014, 2015, 2017, 2018) and a Ligue 1 title with Montpellier in 2012. He hung up the France shirt in July 2024 with 137 caps and 57 goals to his name, making him the all-time leading goalscorer for the Blues.

Returning to France this summer to join LOSC, Giroud will have the opportunity to cross paths with his former club Arsenal on October 13, during the second matchday of the Ligue des Champions league phase. A meeting laden with symbolism for the man who wore the Arsenal shirt for five and a half years.
