Rome’s two clubs opened their Serie A season with victories on Monday evening, closing out matchday 1.

Lazio, now managed by Gennaro Gattuso, claimed three points away at Bologna (0-1) thanks to Davide Frattesi, signed from Inter this summer. The Italian international scored the match’s only goal in the 59th minute, giving his new club a precious victory in the first league game of the season.

Roma made an even stronger impression, dominating Fiorentina 4-0. Donyell Malen was the standout performer, scoring a hat-trick in the 27th, 52nd and 60th minutes — three goals created by three assists from Paulo Dybala. Niccolo Pisilli added a fourth in the 81st minute to seal a decisive victory.

These two wins place Lazio and Roma among the three-point leaders in the standings after matchday 1.
