Fowler, Rivaldo and Seedorf headline Game4Hope charity match at Goodison Park
A combined Merseyside XI featuring Liverpool and Everton legends faces a Rest of the World side at Goodison Park on Saturday, 26 September, with all proceeds going to Everton in the Community and Shelter.
A star-studded charity fixture brings together icons from both sides of Merseyside on Saturday, 26 September, as a combined Liverpool and Everton legends side hosts a Rest of the World XI at Goodison Park. All funds raised will benefit Everton in the Community and Shelter, supporting community programmes and homelessness initiatives across Merseyside.
The match, billed as the inaugural Game4Hope, was originally planned for Everton’s new Hill Dickinson Stadium but has been moved to Goodison Park, the club’s former home. Kick-off is scheduled for 4:45pm.
The Merseyside XI is captained by former Everton midfielder Tim Cahill and jointly managed by Peter Reid and John Barnes. The squad includes fan favourites Robbie Fowler, Leighton Baines, Gareth Barry and David James, bringing together players who were once fierce rivals under a single banner.
Opposing them is a Rest of the World XI captained by Brazilian legend Rivaldo. The international side features a formidable cast of former Champions League winners, including Cafu, Clarence Seedorf, Jaap Stam and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink — names that defined European football across the late 1990s and 2000s.
Game4Hope is designed to set aside the intense local rivalry between Liverpool and Everton in favour of a shared cause, uniting two clubs and their communities for a single afternoon. The event marks the first edition of what organisers hope will become a recurring fixture.
