Finn Russell ruled out injured as Tom Jordan starts Scotland's Nations Championship opener against Argentina
Bristol fly-half Tom Jordan steps in at number 10 after Finn Russell was omitted from Gregor Townsend's match-day squad with a calf injury. Scotland face Argentina in Cordoba on Saturday, with Pierre Schoeman and Scott Cummings both set to earn their 50th caps.
Bristol’s Tom Jordan will start at fly-half for Scotland in their inaugural Nations Championship match against Argentina in Cordoba on Saturday, after Finn Russell was ruled out with a calf injury that has kept him out of Gregor Townsend’s match-day squad entirely.
The New Zealand-born 27-year-old, who can also cover full-back, steps into the number 10 shirt in what is a significant enforced change for Scotland. Glasgow’s Kyle Rowe fills the full-back berth, with Blair Kinghorn also rested following his appearance for Toulouse in their Top 14 final victory over Montpellier last weekend.
Northampton centre Rory Hutchinson earns a rare start in midfield, partnering captain Sione Tuipulotu with Huw Jones still sidelined by a foot injury. The back line is completed by a largely Glasgow-heavy unit, with Kyle Steyn, Jamie Dobie, and Ben White also named.
In the forwards, Edinburgh prop Pierre Schoeman and Glasgow lock Scott Cummings are both set to win their 50th caps, milestone appearances that add extra significance to the fixture. Schoeman is joined in the front row by Ewan Ashman and Elliot Millar Mills, while Cummings partners Jonny Gray in the second row with Grant Gilchrist rested.
Matt Fagerson, Rory Darge, and Jack Dempsey complete the back row, with the replacements bench featuring a strong Glasgow contingent alongside Saracens’ Fergus Burke and Edinburgh’s Darcy Graham.
