Finn Russell has been named in Bath’s starting XV for their final pre-season friendly against Glasgow Warriors at Old Anniesland on Friday evening, ending a spell on the sidelines that saw him miss games against Perpignan, Bedford Blues, and Sale Sharks.

The 33-year-old Scotland and Lions fly-half takes his place at 10 with the Gallagher Premiership season only a week away, partnered at half-back by South African Bernard van der Linde. England internationals Max Ojomoh and Ollie Lawrence form the midfield partnership, while Santi Carreras — back from international duty with Argentina — starts at full-back, pushing Tom de Glanville to the left wing.

No.8 Josh Bayliss joins Russell in the starting line-up, with the back row completed by Guy Pepper and Sam Underhill. Charlie Ewels captains the side from the second row alongside Ted Hill. In the front row, Beno Obano — who is set to join Pau next summer in what will be his final season at Bath — packs down with Dan Frost and a fit-again Will Stuart at tight-head.

Head coach Johann van Graan has also included two Scotland internationals among a large replacements group: new prop signing Jamie Bhatti and centre Cameron Redpath are both named on the bench.

The match at Old Anniesland represents Bath’s last opportunity to sharpen their combinations before competitive rugby resumes, and Russell’s return will be closely watched as van Graan finalises his plans for the season opener.
