Ferran Torres establishes himself at PSG and relegates Désiré Doué to the bench

Ferran Torres has taken Désiré Doué’s place in Paris Saint-Germain’s starting lineup. Arriving this summer, the Spanish forward quickly established himself, notably securing victory for the Parisians away at Brest (0-1), to the point of relegating the young Frenchman to the bench.

Doué, who was a key player in PSG’s Ligue des Champions campaign last season, is experiencing a more difficult restart. Quiet in his recent appearances — including a 2-2 draw against Rennes — he also faced competition from Bradley Barcola during the World Cup with the French national team. Since returning to Paris, he appears less sharp.

According to L’Équipe, the player’s entourage is not sounding the alarm: this dip in form would reflect no physical or mental issue, but simply “the reality of the moment”. The French international’s camp remains vigilant nonetheless and does not wish to see him permanently installed in a backup role.

This situation could weigh on ongoing negotiations for a contract extension. PSG has expressed its desire to extend Doué, recruited for 50 million euros from Rennes, and initial contacts have already taken place. However, discussions have not made real progress at this stage. The forward currently receives the 14th-highest salary in the Paris squad, a compensation level that his entourage will likely deem in need of revision if his status in the group were to be confirmed.

The coming weeks will therefore be decisive for Doué: regaining playing time and effectiveness remains the best way to influence contract negotiations.
