The UEFA Europa League 2024-2025 league phase draw takes place on Friday, August 28 at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco, starting at 1 p.m. Lyon, Marseille and Rennes will learn their eight opponents at the end of the ceremony.
OL, relegated to the Europa League after its elimination by Fenerbahçe in the Ligue des Champions play-offs, is placed in pot 1 alongside Marseille, Leverkusen, Juventus Turin, AC Milan, Benfica, AZ Alkmaar, Olympiakos and Real Sociedad. Rennes, meanwhile, is in pot 2, in a group that notably includes Celtic Glasgow, Salzburg, Dinamo Zagreb and Anderlecht.
The competition adopts the same format as the Ligue des Champions this season: a single pool of 36 teams, each playing eight matches against opponents from the four pots, including their own. The draw will be conducted by a supercomputer after manual ball extraction, to manage the complexity of the format. Each club will play four matches at home and four away.
The league phase will run from September 16 to January 28. Pots 3 and 4 notably include Crystal Palace, Bournemouth, Sunderland, Celta Vigo, Hoffenheim and Besiktas among the potential opponents of the French clubs.
