Elyaz Zidane signs with Red Star for his first experience in France
The youngest of Zinédine Zidane's sons, a 20-year-old central defender trained at Real Madrid and then Betis Seville, has joined Red Star in Ligue 2, marking his first professional experience on French soil.
Elyaz Zidane, 20, signed with Red Star on Saturday, joining the Ligue 2 club for what constitutes his first professional experience in France.
The youngest of Zinédine Zidane’s four sons — all footballers — the left-footed defender (fullback or centre-back) standing 1.96 m tall was trained at Real Madrid’s Castilla before joining Betis Seville. His last two seasons in Andalusia proved disappointing in terms of playing time, with the player largely confined to the Spanish club’s reserve team.
Red Star, fourth in Ligue 2 last season, officially announced the arrival of the young defender in a statement praising “a career built between elite training and international experiences”. The Audien club sees in him a reinforcement of potential for its defensive line.
Elyaz is the last of his siblings to find a club for this season. His brother Luca, goalkeeper for the Algeria national team, is under contract with Granada in Spain’s second division. Théo is still seeking a new club after his contract with Córdoba ended at the same level. The eldest, Enzo, prematurely ended his career in 2023.
