Deschamps linked with Juventus two months after leaving France job

Two months after the end of his time leading France, Didier Deschamps is being touted as a potential successor to Luciano Spalletti at Juventus Turin, a club he left his mark on both as a player and as a manager.

The Old Lady is going through a difficult period. Absent from the UEFA Champions League this season, Juventus has collected only seven points after four Serie A matches, already trailing the leading duo of AS Roma and Inter Milan by five points. The defeat suffered against Sassuolo (3-2) highlighted concerning defensive weaknesses and a lack of consistency in play.

Yet despite being extended until 2028 last April, Spalletti still enjoys official backing from his board. Giovanni Carnevali defended him on Rai Radio 1: “Spalletti is one of the best managers intrinsically: changing the manager is not in my nature. It takes time and patience.” But this support remains conditional. The upcoming fixtures — hosting NEC Nimègue in the Ligue Europa and the trip to Bergamo to face Atalanta in Serie A — promise to be decisive for the rest of his tenure.

It is in this context that Deschamps’ name is circulating insistently among Turin supporters. The link between the Basque tactician and the Piedmont club is long-standing and solid: a major player for Juventus from 1994 to 1999, he subsequently took charge of the team in 2006-2007 to bring it back from Serie B to the top flight after the Calciopoli scandal. His pragmatism, his results-driven mentality and his intimate knowledge of the club fuel calls for his return on the forums and social media of the tifosi.

For now, no official approach has been confirmed. Much will depend on the results of the coming weeks and Spalletti’s ability to quickly turn around a team struggling to find its feet.
