Derrick Lewis drops fan with body shot in viral birthday punch video
Heavyweight Derrick Lewis was caught on video delivering a heavy body shot to a willing fan, reportedly as a birthday gift. The recipient crumpled to the floor but recovered and was smiling afterward.
Derrick Lewis sent a fan to the floor with a stiff body shot in a video that circulated on social media Friday, with the recipient apparently requesting the punch as a birthday gift.
Former UFC fighter Mana Martinez posted the clip, which shows Lewis — known as “The Black Beast” — unloading on a game volunteer. Lewis appeared to take some pace off the shot, but it still carried enough force to buckle the man’s legs and drop him. An off-screen voice can be heard shouting, “He can’t breathe! He can’t breathe!” The fan required assistance getting back to his feet but was reportedly smiling once upright.
The moment is a familiar kind of fan interaction for Lewis, who has built a reputation as one of the UFC’s most accessible and entertaining personalities outside the cage as well as inside it.
The heavyweight will face a considerably sterner test on June 14, when he takes on undefeated prospect Josh Hokit at UFC White House.
