Crusaders release forwards coach Dan Perrin to lead USA Eagles into 2027 Rugby World Cup
Dan Perrin will take up a fixed-term role with the USA Eagles across their 2026 fixtures and the 2027 Rugby World Cup while retaining his position on the Crusaders coaching staff under new head coach Scott Hansen.
Crusaders forwards coach Dan Perrin has been cleared to join the USA Eagles on a fixed-term basis, working with the national side through their 2026 test schedule and next year’s Rugby World Cup before returning full-time to the Christchurch franchise.
Perrin, who has held the forwards coaching role at the Crusaders since 2023, will oversee the Eagles’ forwards department across an upcoming series against Australia A, Georgia, Romania, and Hong Kong China. He will then guide USA through their 2027 World Cup pool campaign, which includes clashes against Japan, France, and Samoa.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to work with USA Rugby and contribute to their programme,” Perrin said. “Working with a different group of players and coaches will provide valuable experiences that I can bring back to the Crusaders, and I’m fortunate to have the support of the club to pursue opportunities like this.”
New Crusaders head coach Scott Hansen backed the arrangement, framing the dual role as a development opportunity that will ultimately benefit the Super Rugby Pacific side. “Exposure to different teams, players, and coaching groups broadens your thinking and ultimately makes you better at what you do,” Hansen said. “The experience Dan gains will be valuable for both his own development and our programme when he returns.”
Perrin’s coaching career began at Tasman in the NPC in 2022 before he joined the Crusaders alongside then-head coach Scott Robertson. As a player, he represented Bay of Plenty and Tasman, made nine appearances for the Crusaders, and turned out twice for the Chiefs.
