Cole Palmer, Rashford and Mainoo all set to withdraw from England's September squad

Cole Palmer is set to withdraw from Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for the September international break, with Marcus Rashford and Kobbie Mainoo also doubts after picking up issues during the weekend’s Premier League fixtures.

Palmer, 24, was recalled by Tuchel last week following his omission from England’s World Cup squad, but is reportedly managing a small injury. The Chelsea forward did complete the full 90 minutes of his side’s 3-0 defeat to Brentford on Friday, and has featured in all five of Chelsea’s Premier League matches this season. However, he has spoken openly about a difficult previous campaign, telling viewers on a Twitch stream that he “had one leg for 10 months”.

Rashford’s involvement is also in doubt after Manchester United manager Michael Carrick confirmed the forward picked up an “issue” during Sunday’s 1-1 draw at Fulham. Rashford was substituted during the match while appearing to struggle with his hip — a problem that had troubled him throughout the summer.

Mainoo, who travelled to the World Cup with England but did not play a single minute under Tuchel, was also withdrawn late in the same game at Craven Cottage, raising further concerns over his fitness ahead of the international window.

England are scheduled to play four matches across the expanded three-week break. Tuchel’s side open against World Cup winners Spain at Wembley on 26 September, before travelling to the Czech Republic and Croatia. The set of UEFA Nations League fixtures concludes against the Czech Republic at Wembley on 6 October.
