Callum Bisping, the 25-year-old son of UFC Hall of Famer Michael Bisping, suffered his first amateur MMA defeat on Saturday night, losing to John McCain by second-round technical knockout at Sundown 2 in Los Angeles. The result drops Callum’s amateur record to 2-1.

Footage of the finish circulated widely online, with fans drawing comparisons to Michael Bisping’s knockout loss to Dan Henderson in their first meeting at UFC 100 — a defeat that became one of the most replayed moments in the promotion’s history.

Callum had built a promising start to his amateur career. The former NCAA Division II wrestler debuted with a unanimous decision victory in December before earning a first-round TKO stoppage in April, suggesting a natural transition from his wrestling background to the full MMA ruleset.

The loss arrives against a backdrop of mixed feelings from his father. Michael Bisping has previously expressed reservations about Callum pursuing a professional fighting career, noting that his eldest son possesses the intelligence to excel in other fields. Despite those reservations, “The Count” has made clear he will back Callum fully if he commits to the sport.

At 25 and with only three amateur bouts on his record, Callum remains at the very beginning of any potential MMA journey. Whether Saturday’s setback prompts a reassessment or simply serves as a learning experience on the road to turning professional remains to be seen.
