Bournemouth's Alex Scott credits stepsister Maya Le Tissier as his England inspiration
Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott, who made his England debut in September, says growing up alongside Lionesses captain Maya Le Tissier on Guernsey shaped his own international ambitions.
Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott has credited his stepsister Maya Le Tissier — Manchester United captain and Euro 2025 winner with the Lionesses — as the driving inspiration behind his own England career, after making his senior international debut in September.
Scott and Le Tissier grew up together on Guernsey, their family connection formed when Scott’s father began a relationship with Le Tissier’s mother. The pair would travel to the mainland together in the early stages of their respective careers, with Scott coming through Southampton’s academy while Le Tissier was already making a name for herself as a player.
“She’s my stepsister, my dad’s with her mum, so we grew up playing football together,” Scott told FourFourTwo. “She’d travel over at the same time as me when I was at Southampton and she was always an unbelievable player. We knew she was going to go on to do what she’s doing now and I’m super proud of her.”
Le Tissier earned her first Lionesses cap in 2022 and went on to play a significant role in England’s Euro 2025 triumph, while Scott has steadily established himself in the Premier League with Bournemouth before earning his own call-up to the men’s senior squad.
“I’ve seen how hard Maya has worked from a young age to get where she is now and I’ve been on that same sort of journey,” Scott said. “She’s made it — playing for the Lionesses, captaining Manchester United. They’re big footsteps to follow in. But she’s an inspiration because I can see the work she’s put in, and it’s paying off.”
Scott also noted the value of having someone so close to him who understands the demands of international football. “We keep in touch all the time — it’s nice to have someone close to you who’s in the same boots,” he said.
Having two members of the same family representing England’s men’s and women’s senior teams simultaneously is a rare distinction, and Scott appears determined to build on his debut and make the connection a lasting one.
