Both UFC 333 title fights official as Caliari misses weight by 4.5 pounds

Both championship bouts on the UFC 333 card are officially set after Thursday’s weigh-ins in Abu Dhabi, with featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski and challenger Movsar Evloev both hitting the 145-pound limit ahead of their Saturday main event.

Volkanovski scaled 144.5 pounds, while the undefeated Evloev came in exactly on the featherweight limit. The co-main event also cleared the scales without incident: bantamweight champion Petr Yan and Merab Dvalishvili both weighed in at 135 pounds for their third meeting, a rematch of one of the division’s most compelling rivalries.

The only blemish on an otherwise clean card came from strawweight Nicolle Caliari, who tipped the scales at 120.5 pounds — 4.5 pounds over the 115-pound limit for her bout against Iasmin Lucindo. The fight will still proceed, but Caliari will forfeit a percentage of her purse as a financial penalty.

Evloev enters the featherweight title fight as the most credible challenger the division has produced in some time. The 32-year-old American Top Team product is unbeaten at 20-0 overall and a perfect 10-0 inside the Octagon, having defeated Lerone Murphy, Aljamain Sterling, Arnold Allen and Diego Lopes in succession. A win over Volkanovski on Saturday would represent the defining moment of his career.
