Medhi Benatia could make a comeback in Serie A. According to specialist journalist Matteo Moretto, AC Milan is actively searching for a sporting director to fill the departure of Igli Tare, who was sacked in May, and the former Olympique de Marseille executive is among the profiles being studied by the Lombard club.

Benatia left OM at the end of a particularly turbulent season. Arriving as a sports adviser in November 2023, he was promoted to director of football in January 2025 before resigning in February, returning until the end of the season, then leaving the club permanently at the end of the campaign. Since then, the former Moroccan international (66 caps) has reinvented himself as a consultant.

Moretto was keen to highlight his profile explicitly: “I would like to put forward for a moment the profile of Medhi Benatia, former defender and former sporting director of Marseille, who would be delighted to return to work in Italy, a country he knows very well.” The journalist clarifies, however, that no name stands out at this stage, and that further interviews and contacts are planned in the coming weeks.

Benatia maintains strong ties with Italian football: he wore the Juventus shirt between 2016 and 2019, after spells at AS Roma and Bayern Munich. This knowledge of the environment could be an asset in the race for the position, even if Milan has not yet made its choice.
