Belgium mock Trump with his own dance moves after routing US 4-1 at World Cup

Belgium knocked the United States out of the 2026 World Cup with a commanding 4-1 victory in Seattle, then rubbed salt in the wound by mimicking Donald Trump’s signature dance moves after their final goal — a direct dig at the president’s pre-match intervention with FIFA.

Goals from Charles De Ketelaere (twice), Hans Vanaken and Romelu Lukaku sealed a quarter-final berth for Rudi Garcia’s side against Spain, while the US exit was accompanied by the kind of political theatre that had overshadowed the tie from the start.

Trump had lobbied FIFA president Gianni Infantino to review the automatic one-match ban handed to US striker Folarin Balogun following his red card in the win over Bosnia & Herzegovina. FIFA’s independent disciplinary committee subsequently suspended the ban, making Balogun available for the Belgium fixture. Belgium appealed the decision and lost, but their players appeared to have the last laugh on the pitch.

The president’s involvement has intensified scrutiny on Infantino, who initially stated the decision had been taken by an independent committee — only for Trump to publicly confirm he had personally spoken to the FIFA chief. Infantino is now facing calls to resign, with critics pointing to FIFA’s own strict rules on political interference in the affairs of its national associations. Nepal’s football federation was suspended just last month on similar grounds.

Trump defended his intervention at length, arguing that Balogun’s challenge on the Bosnia player was accidental. “That wasn’t a foul, that wasn’t even an infraction,” the president said. “These were two great athletes that got tangled up. He didn’t do anything wrong and he’s our best player, or one of our best players.”

This is not the first time Trump has found himself on the receiving end of sporting mockery. Following Europe’s victory over Team USA at last year’s Ryder Cup in New York, Rory McIlroy filmed the European team singing “Are you watching Donald Trump?” with the trophy. When the clip reached Trump, he responded on Truth Social with characteristic brevity: “Yes, I’m watching. Congratulations!”
