Arsenal chase Julian Alvarez and Morgan Rogers as Spurs seal Van Hecke in £52m deal
Arsenal are pursuing both Julian Alvarez and Aston Villa's Morgan Rogers this summer, while Tottenham have completed a £52m signing of Jan Paul van Hecke from Brighton and added Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson on free transfers.
Arsenal are pushing on two fronts this transfer window, targeting Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez and Aston Villa midfielder Morgan Rogers as the club looks to strengthen ahead of the new season.
Alvarez has made clear he wants to leave Atletico Madrid, with Barcelona his preferred destination. Arsenal remain in contention, however, with a potential player-plus-cash deal involving Viktor Gyokeres among the options being discussed. The Argentine’s situation has become increasingly fraught, with his public desire to move on creating tension at the Spanish club.
Rogers has emerged as Arsenal’s leading target for a new No.10 this summer. Aston Villa have no intention of selling the England international, but the player himself is understood to be keen on a move to the Emirates. The Gunners’ pursuit sets up what could be a protracted negotiation with Villa, who are under no financial pressure to sell.
While Arsenal work through those targets, Tottenham have made a more concrete start to their summer business. Defender Jan Paul van Hecke has joined from Brighton in a £52 million deal, with Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson also arriving on free transfers to bolster the backline.
Spurs are not done there. The club are targeting at least one new midfielder and a forward before the window closes, with Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes identified in the middle of the park. Liverpool winger Cody Gakpo has also been linked with a move to north London in recent days.
With the summer window now fully open, activity across the Premier League is expected to accelerate as clubs finalise their pre-season squads.
