Andrew Kellaway has retired from professional rugby at the age of 30, bringing down the curtain on a 12-year career that took him from Super Rugby to the Wallabies leadership group at a Rugby World Cup. The winger earned 49 Test caps for Australia, making his international debut against France in July 2021 and last pulling on the gold jersey on 16 November 2025, coming off the bench against Ireland in Dublin.

“Closing the curtain on 12 incredible years,” Kellaway wrote on Instagram. “Special people, special places and lots to remember. Big thank you to everyone who supported along the way and those that played a part. It’s been real.”

Kellaway came through the Australia Under-20 ranks before debuting for the NSW Waratahs on 2 April 2016 against the Melbourne Rebels. He went on to represent both Super Rugby franchises, and also spent time in New Zealand with provincial side Counties Manukau — where he played alongside Sonny Bill Williams — before stints with Northampton Saints in England and Green Rockets Tokatsu in Japan.

He became Wallaby number 943 on his Test debut and was named part of the Wallabies leadership group at the 2023 Rugby World Cup in France. More recently, he turned out for the Barbarians against the Springboks and Wales.

The announcement drew widespread tributes from across the rugby world. All Blacks halfback Cam Roigard, Wallabies winger Max Jorgensen, England’s George Furbank and the official Super Rugby Pacific account all commented on his post. Former NRL star Christian Welch, 95-Test Wallaby Kurtley Beale, former Wallabies fly-half Quade Cooper, former All Blacks halfback TJ Perenara, and multiple current Australian internationals also paid their respects.

Kellaway’s versatility as a utility back — capable of covering wing and fullback — made him a reliable option across club and international rugby throughout a career that spanned three continents.
