Amorim wants to extend Rabiot after stunning AC Milan debut

Adrien Rabiot needed just half an hour to convince his new manager. Coming on in the second half during AC Milan’s 1-2 victory over Torino in Serie A last Sunday, the French international midfielder scored a goal and provided an assist.

At a press conference on Thursday, ahead of AC Milan’s home match against Venezia for matchday 2 of the championship, Ruben Amorim was full of praise. “I didn’t know Rabiot. He’s a crucial player for our project, I love everything about him,” said the Portuguese coach, before going further on the future of the 31-year-old player.

“We want to keep him and, if we can, renew his contract, which currently runs until 2028. He already knows this. He’s really professional, he wants to learn despite his age, he’s very humble. With only three training sessions since his return, he managed to be decisive. He’s a key player for us,” insisted the former Sporting Portugal manager.

Amorim also clarified how he plans to use the former Paris player in his system. “He will play as a midfielder or number 10, it depends on the match. He’s used to playing deeper, but at Marseille, under De Zerbi, he played really well in this position because he’s very intelligent and he shoots at goal. In three sessions, he already knew that Chukwueze was going to put the ball in that spot,” he detailed, highlighting the speed of adaptation of the “Duke” to his new colours.
